Shopping List for New Glider Owners

Misc.

**Glider Log (or journal)

**A reliable car. Do not rely on a bus to take you to the vet in early morning hours.

**Money to pay for vet bills which can be slightly higher than a common pet.

**At least 1 full hour of out of the cage play time per cage of gliders.

**LOTS OF LOVE

**A bonding pouch

**Fleece Blankets at least 12" x 12" for catching wayward sugar gliders.

Housing

**A Cage (coated with either: powder, pvc, vinyl, or painted glaze.) with a pull out tray that is at least 2' x 2' x 3' with openings in the mesh or bars of either: 1/2" x 1/2", 1" x 1/4", or less but not screen door mesh.

**One Confinement cage per glider. Cage is the same as the cage above except that it is much smaller. 18" x 18" x 18". This is for illness and not permanent use.

**A mesh or solid track wheel for all primary cages, like the Wodent Wheel, Silent Spinners, and Stealth Wheels. Hamster wheels can injure a gliders tail.

**Cage Toys. You should have tunnels, ropes, and swings for each cage excluding the confinement cages. The cage should have enough free room for the glider to jump around in.

**A water source for every cage, two is preferred.

**At least two food stations per cage for every cage, this includes the confinement cage.

**A cage pouch, glider house, or hammock should be provided. There should be at least two different choices for the glider to be able to choose to sleep in for every cage, this includes the confinement cages.

**Bonding Tent - this is a small junior dome tent you can find for under $20 at stores such as KMart

**A glider emergency kit - Q-Tips to clean wounds and apply medication; 1 cc syringes without needles for oral medications; .3 cc syringes with needles to give injections (only give injections if vet has instructed you and given permission); Neosporin + pain relief; Baby fingernail clippers; Silver nitrate sticks/corn starch to clot bleeding; Marsupial milk for emergency feeding; e-collar; Sterile cotton pads/bandages; Toothpicks and small adhesive tape to make splint; French catheter #5 for feeding babies and adults; Pedialyte; Mineral oil; Aquarium or small critter keeper for injured/rejected joeys; Heating pad
