Why Are Symptoms Good to Know?

Gliders hide symptoms very well.  Therefore a list of symptoms and what tests should generally be run is important.  This list has been collected by members of the glider community.  Please remember these are only guidelines.  Consulting your vet is very important.

General tests to be done for a wellness check

**Direct fecal smear and fecal floatation

**Urinary analysis

**Check mouth/teeth/gums to make sure they are healthy

Diarrhea

**Culture and sensitivity (these take time for the lab to do so doing this on the first visit is vital)

**Direct fecal smear and fecal floatation

**Cytology panel should be done to try to determine type and % of bacteria and whether or not it is gram negative or gram positive

Respiratory Distress

**Culture and sensitivity of nasal fluids

**X-rays (require the glider to be sedated)

**Urinary analysis

**Direct fecal smear and fecal floatation

**Cytology panel

**Draw blood for lab work (require the glider to be sedated)

Vomiting

**Direct fecal smear and fecal floatation

**Cytology panel

**Urinary analysis

**Culture and sensitivity

**X-ray (require the glider to be sedated)

Self Mutilation

**X-ray (require the glider to be sedated)

**Direct fecal smear and fecal floatation

**Urinary analysis

**Culture & Sensitivity of nasal, oral and cloacae area and or urine

**Draw blood for lab (possibly & require the glider to be sedated)

Swollen Face

**Culture and sensitivity of abscess or oral and nasal fluids

**Direct fecal smear and fecal floatation

**Urinary analysis

**Draw blood for lab work (require the glider to be sedated)
